Whereas, Collin Bigras has mastered the sport of trapshooting as few other 15-year-olds have ever achieved, and

Whereas, the U-32 freshman took up the sport at age 12 at the East Montpelier Gun Club, and

Whereas, Collin Bigras has participated in 15 shoot-off competitions, winning at least a dozen, and

Whereas, his proficiency as a trapshooter led to his participation in the 2006 World Shooting Championship in Sparta, Illinois, and

Whereas, the trapshooting event required Collin Bigras to shoot from five trap stations that are arranged in a semicircle and to take five shots at each target for a total of 25 shots per round and to repeat this process for five rounds, and

Whereas, having scored a perfect 100 points hitting every target in the program round, Collin Bigras was one of four shooters entered in a shoot-off round, and he outlasted the others, never missing the target to win this Champion of Champions event, and

Whereas, he is the first Vermonter, in any age or class category, ever to win any of the prestigious Champion of Champions shoot events, and

Whereas, his 2006 victory has now earned him a place on the 2007 Sub‑Junior All-American Trapshooting First Team, and

Whereas, the magnitude of Collin’s accomplishment received additional recognition when he was invited to attend the Olympic trials in Colorado Springs, Colorado scheduled for August 2007, and

Whereas, Collin Bigras can be extremely proud of his unusual athletic accomplishment, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Collin Bigras on being named to the 2007 Sub-Junior All-American Trapshooting First Team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the general assembly extends its best wishes to Collin Bigras for success at the Olympic trials, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Collin Bigras in East Montpelier.
