NO. R-153. House concurrent resolution honoring Gary Palmer of Georgia for his exemplary public service as the St. Albans City fire chief.

Whereas, for the past 35 years, the city of St. Albans has been extremely fortunate to have its fire department under the direction of chief Gary Palmer, and
Whereas, during his long tenure, the department modernized its equipment and stayed current with contemporary firefighting standards, and
Whereas, the St. Albans City fire department responded to serious fires quickly and with the utmost professionalism, and
Whereas, surrounding towns were able to rely with confidence on the St. Albans City fire department when large blazes were beyond the capacity of their local fire departments to extinguish without additional assistance, and
Whereas, at a recent retirement ceremony, with approximately 120 persons in attendance, including firefighters from the communities of Fairfield, Georgia, St. Albans Town and two Canadian firefighting units; family members; and former St. Albans City fire chief, Reggie Austin, who 35 years after his retirement remains active in the community, St. Albans City Mayor Marty Manahan presented Gary Palmer a plaque and other honors from area departments in recognition of his outstanding work as chief, and
Whereas, chief Palmer is not leaving the firefighting field entirely as he is now beginning a new career as a safety inspector with the fire safety division of the department of public safety, and
Whereas, Gary Palmer’s legacy to the St. Albans City fire department is an effective firefighting service that is prepared to meet future challenges, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly honors Gary Palmer of Georgia for his exemplary public service as he concludes his 35 year tenure as the St. Albans City fire chief, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Gary Palmer in Georgia.
