NO. R-142.  House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2007 Burr and Burton Academy Bulldogs championship Division II girls’ ice hockey team.

Whereas, not prepared to allow their male counterparts to reap all the praise, the Burr and Burton Academy Bulldogs’ girls’ ice hockey team skated onto the ice at Kreitzberg Arena in Northfield with the objective of repeating the boys’ prior evening’s accomplishment and capturing their own Division II ice hockey championship, and

Whereas, the championship contest against the Missisquoi Valley Union High School Thunderbirds proved to be a thrilling evening of top quality ice hockey, and

Whereas, the scoreless first period only raised the players’ and fans’ anticipation of the exciting action on the ice that was sure to come, and

Whereas, at 4:38 in the second period, Bulldog Lou Lou Wheeler passed the puck to teammate Chelsea Edson who directed it into an unprotected area of the net for the game’s initial point, and

Whereas, late in the third period, with only eight seconds remaining in regulation play, and as it turned out, the entire season, Burr and Burton’s Marie Van Der Kar sent the puck with great force toward the scoring zone, and teammate Lou Lou Wheeler steered it precisely in the right direction to provide the Bulldogs their second and final goal, and

Whereas, the Bulldogs’ 2–0 victory was the result of a unified team effort, and special recognition must be paid to goalie Kristen Palmer whose 13 saves throughout the evening were essential for the Bulldogs’ championship win and

Whereas, the team featured a talented roster of dedicated hockey players, including:  Aimee Bailey, Marie Van Der Kar, Whitney Marmer, Danielle Charbonneau, Nicole Read, Sarah Stearns, Hannah Wright, Lou Lou Wheeler,  Hannah Corkum, Michelle Read, Chelsea Edson, Kelsey Cone, Erin Foerster, Michaela Lewis, Jenny Coppin, Karla Coppin, Kristen Palmer, and Maria Rojas, and

Whereas, coach Chip Edson’s timely advice and informative instruction resulted in a wonderful 20-1-1- season and the Division II championship crown, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 2007 Burr and Burton Academy Bulldogs championship Division II girls’ ice hockey team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Chip Edson at Burr and Burton Academy.
