|ACT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY||2007-2008|
NO. R-133. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating the 2007 Rice Memorial High School Green Knights Division I boys’ basketball championship team.
By Senators Condos, Flanagan, Lyons, Miller, Racine and Snelling,
Whereas, the 2007 Division I state championship boys’ basketball game pitted Vermont’s two top teams, the first-seeded Burlington High School Seahorses and the second-seeded Rice Memorial High School Green Knights of South Burlington, in an exciting showdown at Patrick Gymnasium on the University of Vermont campus, and
Whereas, when the initial tip-off signaled the game’s start, the Green Knights set a fast scoring pace, concluding the first quarter with a 10-5 lead, and
Whereas, although Rice proved even more formidable against Burlington in the second quarter, achieving a 22-16 advantage at halftime, the Seahorses recognized this lead was still subject to challenge, and
Whereas, during the second half, Burlington’s Tyrone Conley ignited on the floor to score 11 consecutive points, including three three-pointers, and
Whereas, although this offensive surge gave the Seahorses a momentary lead, the Green Knights regrouped nicely with the defensive play of Josh Danis contributing a significant element to defusing Burlington’s scoring spree, and
Whereas, in the fourth quarter’s last and pivotal moments, Rice scored the evening’s final four points, emerged victorious with a 40-37 win, and took home the 2007 Division I championship, and
Whereas, the hard-working and determined Green Knights of Rice, including Patrick Ittleman, Cody Rice, Kevin Gamache, Josh Danis, Marcus Dutkiewicz, Gael Shungu, Jonathan Goldberg, David Gagne, Joey O’Brien, Connor McCormick, Mike McCormick, Patrick Bergmann and Ben Gagne, demonstrated that perseverance and patience on the hardwood floor can indeed lead to victory, and
Whereas, head coach Paul Pecor and his great assistant coaches Derek Trono, Joe Gamache, Leo Besaw and Jon Rock wisely counseled their team on the game’s strategic subtleties, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2007 Rice Memorial High School Green Knights Division I boys’ basketball championship team, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Paul Pecor at Rice Memorial High School.
