ACT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2007-2008

NO. R-120.  House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2007 Poultney High School championship Division III cheerleading team.

Whereas, in order to excel as a cheerleader, an individual must have innate enthusiasm, be physically fit, and have the ability to work in coordination with teammates and often a musical accompaniment, and

Whereas, Poultney High School has mastered the finer points of cheerleading as its recent record of accomplishment testifies, having captured championship titles in Division II in 2004 and 2005 and then winning a similar honor in Division III in 2006, and

Whereas, having settled comfortably into the Division III alignment of teams, the Poultney cheerleaders were prepared to continue their impressive streak of state divisional titles, and

Whereas, when the cheerleading team traveled to Essex for the 2007 state championship competition, over 100 Poultney residents made the same journey, including many who adorned shirts emblazoned with the words “It takes a Village to raise a champion” as a sign of support for their home town cheerleaders, and

Whereas, the Poultney cheerleaders did not disappoint their many admirers as they captured a fourth consecutive state title, and

Whereas, in the second round of the Essex competition, Poultney earned 183 of a possible 200 points with the next highest scoring school in any of the three divisions turning in a performance that garnered a much lower 145 points, and

Whereas, the Poultney students comprising this fantastic cheerleading team are seniors Danielle Gregoire, Jessica Kimball, and Luke Dailey; juniors Brittany Snook, Katarina Kerber, Caliegh Nagar, Amanda Petty, Brooke Rupe, Katie Hampl, Kassey Powers, Kelsey Powers, Jami Panoushek, Meredith Oakman, and Ryan Pettis; sophomores Staci Jedlick, Ashley Morgan, Lauren Maynard, and Tammy Thomas; and freshmen Nicolette Duval, Aaron Snook, Ashley Fox, Erika Carter, Joanna Lilly, and Meghan Franzoni, and they all  valued the support of team manager Patience Carpenter, and

Whereas, coach Rommy Fuller, varsity assistant Joey Crowningshield Williams and assistant varsity coach Tia Hewes all proved to be great instructors and mentors for the team, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 2007 Poultney High School championship Division III cheerleading team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Rommy Fuller at Poultney High School.
