Whereas, on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the St. Johnsbury Academy gymnasium, the Mt. Anthony Union High School wrestling Patriots wrote a new page in the national interscholastic sports record books when they captured their school’s 19th consecutive state championship title, and
Whereas, this great feat tied the national consecutive state wrestling championship record that Paulsboro, New Jersey High School had held solely until this year, and
Whereas, the Mt. Anthony wrestlers amassed an amazing 300 points at the two-day championship meet, outscoring their nearest competitor by a 132‑point margin, and
Whereas, 11 Patriot wrestlers earned the right to compete in the final championship round reflecting the extremely talented athletes who comprised the 2006–2007 Mt. Anthony team, and
Whereas, not only did the Mt. Anthony Patriots capture the statewide championship, but six individual wrestlers, including Jacob Shortt (112-pound class), John Andrews (119-pound class); Scott Legacy II (125-pound class); Kyle Elithorpe (152-pound class); Damian Legacy (171-pound class), and Matt McVay (189-pound class) won in their respective individual weight classes, and
Whereas, the entire 2007 Mt. Anthony Union High School Patriots wrestling roster consisting of Derek Lonergan, Jacob Shortt, John Andrews, Scott Legacy II, Ethan Olin, Zach Randall, Dan Pierce, Mike Becker, Kyle Elithorpe, Cole Frost, Damian Legacy, Matt McVay, Larry Cole, and Ethan Furlon is to be complimented for its outstanding performances both at the state championship and throughout the season, and welcomed the support of statisticians Hannah Messer, Whitney Olin, and Ashley Hayes, and manager Paul Redden, and
Whereas, coach Scott Legacy and his coaching staff of Ben Lackey, Bucky Noyes, Shawn Legacy, Eric Becker, Dwyane Metcalf, T.J. Maroney, and Derrick Tienken merit special recognition for their accomplishments, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2007 Mt. Anthony Union High School Patriots championship wrestling team on winning its 19th consecutive state championship, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Scott Legacy at Mt. Anthony Union High School.
