Whereas, Norwich ice hockey coach Mike McShane has developed a reputation for skill and savvy both on and off the ice during his nearly four decades coaching, and
Whereas, following his own collegiate playing career at, and graduation from the University of New Hampshire, he decided to continue his close association with the game as a coach, and
Whereas, after serving his apprenticeship in the prep school coaching ranks, and as an assistant coach at Dartmouth College, Mike McShane was offered a college head coaching opportunity at St. Lawrence University where he won 93 games during a five-year tenure, and he followed this accomplishment with an impressive 151 victories in a nine-season run at Providence College, and
Whereas, following a coaching sabbatical that provided Coach McShane the chance to work with the NHL Ottawa Senators and to earn a master’s degree from Boston University, he accepted the job of leading the ice hockey program at Norwich University and simultaneously participating in the design of a new rink for the Cadets, and
Whereas, his first two years at Norwich were in the dated Taylor Arena, and he then endured a year of home games while camped at the Barre Auditorium before moving the Cadets into their new home, the now highly touted Kreitzberg Arena, and
Whereas, on Saturday evening, February 17, at Kreitzberg Arena, the Cadets concluded their regular season by: earning their sixth consecutive win as they defeated a tough Colby College team 4-2; clinched the regular season ECAC-East regular season championship; and, yes, securing for Coach McShane his 500th collegiate ice hockey coaching victory, and
Whereas, the coach was presented a special granite plaque to commemorate this historic occasion and becoming only the 14th college ice hockey coach to reach this lofty victory plateau, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates Norwich University ice hockey coach Mike McShane on his 500th collegiate victory, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Coach McShane at Norwich University.
