NO. R-88. House concurrent resolution congratulating the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce on its 50th anniversary.
Offered by: Representatives Obuchowski of Rockingham, Partridge of Windham, Deen of Westminster and Mrowicki of Putney
Whereas, the Great Falls region consists of the Vermont communities of Athens, Grafton, Putney, Rockingham, including Bellows Falls, and Westminster, and the New Hampshire municipalities of Acworth, Alstead, Charlestown, Langdon, North Walpole, Walpole, and Westmoreland that surround the dramatic gorge waterfalls on the Connecticut River, and
Whereas, the Great Falls region offers many visitor and business development opportunities on both sides of the Connecticut River, and
Whereas, since 1957, the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce has endeavored to promote the wonders of the region locally, nationally, and internationally, through publications, personal appearances, and, more recently, on the World Wide Web, and
Whereas, from its headquarters at the Waypoint Visitor’s Center in the village of Bellows Falls, the chamber offers specific services for vacationing tourists and for businesses seeking to establish or relocate facilities in the region, and
Whereas, every summer, this year August 3–5, the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce sponsors Rockingham Old Home Days (ROHD) that features fun events at the Waypoint Center and at nearby Centennial Park, including a carnival, craft and food booths, and entertainment, and
Whereas, other ROHD-associated happenings at other locations are the Green Mountain Flyer train excursions and the annual pilgrimage ceremony at the Rockingham Meeting House, and
Whereas, under the insightful leadership of executive director Roger Riccio, president Rose Fowler, and the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors, the organization has brought increased economic activity and prominence to the region, and
Whereas, on March 7, the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce will commemorate the organization’s 50th anniversary at its annual banquet, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce on its 50th anniversary, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Roger Riccio at the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce in Bellows Falls.
