NO. r-54. House concurrent resolution honoring the heroes of the March 2006 Isle La Motte ice rescue.

Whereas, on March 24, 2006, a man fell through the ice off the west shore of Isle La Motte in view of three individuals, including the 1st Assistant Chief David Gervais and firefighter Warren Klopsch of the Isle La Motte volunteer fire company and local resident Paul Langlois, and
Whereas, the immediacy of the emergency inspired the three individuals to not wait for the arrival of additional individuals or backup safety equipment and to venture onto the ice despite the extreme personal risk they might encounter, and
Whereas, this daring rescue proved successful, and the man who fell through the ice reached the hospital in time to receive the medical treatment necessary in order to recover completely, and
Whereas, in recognition of their extraordinary and potentially life‑threatening heroism, Isle La Motte volunteer fire company 1st Assistant Chief David Gervais, firefighter Warren Klopsch, and Paul Langlois have been selected as recipients of the Vermont State Citizen Heroism Award, and
Whereas, on February 5, 2007, the three honorees will be presented the award at a special ceremony to be held at the Isle La Motte fire station, and
Whereas, the ceremony will be conducted in the presence of local, state, and Quebec public safety and other governmental representatives as well as family and friends of the three award winners, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly honors the heroes of the March 2006 Isle La Motte ice rescue and congratulates them on their receipt of the Vermont State Citizen Heroism Award, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Isle La Motte volunteer fire company’s 1st Assistant Chief David Gervais and firefighter Warren Klopsch, to Paul Langlois, and to the Isle La Motte volunteer fire company.
