NO. R-53.  Senate concurrent resolution congratulating the 2006 Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) Redhawks Division I championship girls’ soccer team.

By Senators Condos, Flanagan, Lyons, Miller, Racine and Snelling,

Whereas, the CVU Redhawks girls’ soccer team won the 2004 Division I title and lost the 2005 divisional final in overtime by a 1-0 score, and

Whereas, having come so close to bringing home top honors in 2005, the Redhawks were motivated to employ all of their soccer skills in pursuit of the 2006 crown, and

Whereas, the team played its best throughout the fall and earned the right to face Rutland High School in the pivotal final game, and

Whereas, the importance of  a strong bench was demonstrated as Redhawk Katherine Goller, who is not a regular starter, either assisted with or scored all three CVU goals, and

Whereas, at 11:58 before the midgame break, she set up the shot that enabled teammate Joanie Gentile to send the ball to the right post and place CVU on the scoreboard, and

Whereas, with slightly over 20 minutes remaining in the second half,  Redhawk Jackie Wool passed the ball to Katherine Goller, who then scored a second team goal, and

Whereas, seeking to increase the margin of comfort, Katherine Goller sent the ball to Redhawk Katy Shaw who was within scoring range and kicked the ball into the net for the game’s final and decisive goal, and

Whereas, the entire CVU team, including Alexa Mucklow, Lindsay Simmons, Katy Shaw, Kendra Wilkins, Emily Milbank, Laura Gentile, Shawn Logan,  Rachael Stearns, Angie Dunkling, Jenna Wulfson, Tova Tomasi, Dava Wool, Joanie Gentile, Elizabeth Proutt, Robin Hart, Jackie Wool, Mandy Clayton, Katherine Goller, Haleigh Smith, Lindsay Volk, Amanda Blanchard, Addie Peterson, and Abbi Senesac, played energetically and with great spirit, and

Whereas, the leadership of head coach Brad Parker and assistant coaches John Koerner, Katherine Riley, and Annie Crawford proved essential to the CVU victory, now therefore be it
