Juneteenth National Freedom Day
This act designates the third Saturday in June as Juneteenth National Freedom Day. This day will be a state commemorative, but not legal, state holiday. The holiday recognizes the issuance and public reading of General Order No. 3 (the Emancipation Proclamation declaring that all slaves are free) on June 19, 1865.
Effective Date: July 1, 2008.
