ACT NO. 157

Vermont milk commission

This act makes changes to the authority and operation of the Vermont milk commission. The act directs the Vermont milk commission to establish by order a minimum producer price that is designed to reflect the cost of production, and directs that the cost of picking up and hauling milk will be paid by the purchaser. The act expands the commission to include nine members, and expands its authority to hire technical and legal counsel to perform its duties, and revises the thresholds for market price changes that dictate when the commission shall meet. The act adds provisions for the issuance of an order by the commission, addressing notice requirements, party status, and the hearing process generally. The act also creates a Vermont milk commission fund, which shall be used as necessary for the purposes of chapter 161 (Vermont milk commission).

Effective Date: May 20, 2008.
