ACT NO. 59


Health; insurance; naturopathic physicians; prostate cancer screenings

This act requires health insurance plans, including Medicaid, VHAP, and the Vermont state employees’ health plan, to cover medically necessary health care services provided by licensed, naturopathic physicians, subject to reasonable cost-sharing provisions, benefit management, and

cost-effectiveness and clinical efficacy standards.

This act also requires health insurers to cover prostate cancer screenings consistent with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or upon the recommendation of a health care provider.

Effective Date: The act is effective October 1, 2007 and shall apply to a health insurance plan on the date, after October 1, 2007, that the plan is offered, issued, or renewed, but in no event later than October 1, 2008.
