Workers' compensation; firefighters; cancer presumption
This act creates a presumption that a firefighter who dies or is disabled by specific types of cancer contracted the cancer in the course of employment. To be eligible for the presumption, the firefighter must be under the age of 65, have undergone a cancer screening that found no cancer prior to employment or by July 1, 2009, have engaged in firefighting or other hazardous activities in Vermont for at least five years, have not used tobacco products for at least ten years prior to diagnosis, and must have a diagnosis that the cancer occurred within ten years of active firefighting employment.
