House concurrent resolution in memory of former Representative Robert D. Yoder of Springfield

Offered by:  Representatives Emmons of Springfield, Martin of Springfield, Nitka of Ludlow and Obuchowski of Rockingham

Whereas, Robert Yoder was a public servant on the local, state, and federal levels of government, and

Whereas, he was a graduate of Findlay College and subsequently attended Cornell and Yale universities for his graduate education, and

Whereas, during World War II, Robert Yoder was a United States Navy officer, and

Whereas, after his military service and the completion of his graduate school studies, he was accepted into the United States Foreign Service and was posted around the world to many locations, including the Philippines, Hong Kong, Quebec City, Washington, D.C., and, most unusually, at an American outpost in Antarctica, and

Whereas, at the conclusion of his distinguished and globe‑trotting foreign service career, Robert Yoder moved to Springfield where he became involved in many civic activities, both locally and statewide, and

Whereas, among the community organizations in which he participated were the Southeast Council on the Arts, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Vermont Public Television, the United Way, the Vermont Land Trust, and the Springfield Community Chorus, and

Whereas, Robert Yoder served on the Springfield selectboard and as a justice of the peace, and

Whereas, he represented Springfield in the General Assembly, and

Whereas, Robert Yoder’s death marks the conclusion of an extraordinarily busy and productive life, and

Whereas, his family members, including his wife Dorothy, daughter Sharon, son Ted, and four grandchildren will miss him very much, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and house of Representatives:

That the General Assembly expresses its sincere condolences to the family of former Representative Robert Yoder of Springfield, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the family of former Representative Robert Yoder.
