Joint Concurrent House Resolution

H.C.R.  121

House concurrent resolution congratulating the Bellows Falls High School Alumni Association on its 100th anniversary

Offered by:  Representatives Obuchowski of Rockingham and Partridge of Windham

Whereas, the Bellows Falls High School Alumni Association is one of the oldest such organizations in Vermont, and

Whereas, 2005 marks the association’s 100th anniversary, and

Whereas, the association proclaims itself “the most active alumni association in New England,” and

Whereas, beginning in 1958, the association has awarded 195 scholarships to graduates of either Bellows Falls High School or Bellows Falls Union High School, totaling $100,000.00 in order to assist them in furthering their education, and

Whereas, in celebration of this momentous occasion in the association’s history, on the weekend of June 17-19, a series of commemorative events will occur on the banks of the Connecticut River, and

Whereas, the weekend’s festivities will begin with two dances held on Friday evening, June 17, at the Waypoint Center and the American Legion in Bellows Falls, and

Whereas, on Saturday, June 18, individual class reunions will take place, including the Class of 1955’s 50th reunion celebration at the Hooper Country Club in Walpole, New Hampshire, and

Whereas, on Sunday, June 19, the crowning of the alumni queen will be held in the village square, and the alumni parade, always a major and fun-filled event, featuring class‑constructed floats, will be held immediately thereafter, and

Whereas, as a departure from the tradition of other years, instead of designating a grand marshal, the parade will honor Bellows Falls High School and Bellows Falls Union High School alumni past, present, and future, and

Whereas, the weekend’s activities will conclude with the association’s annual business meeting which will convene in the Bellows Falls Middle School auditorium, and

Whereas, the weekend will enable alumni of Bellows Falls High School and Bellows Falls Union High School to renew old friendships and celebrate this special occasion in grand style, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Bellows Falls High School Alumni Association as it observes its 100th anniversary, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Gail Brandon in Bellows Falls.
