JOINT CONCURRENT HOUSE RESOLUTION

State of Vermont

House of Representatives

Montpelier, Vermont

Joint Concurrent House Resolution

H.C.R.  73

House concurrent resolution congratulating the South Royalton High School Royals 2005 Division III championship boys’ basketball team

Offered by:  Representative McLaughlin of Royalton

Whereas, only once before, a decade ago, has South Royalton High School won a boys’ basketball championship title, and

Whereas, the Royals have played sharply on the basketball court all season and were seeded second in the Division III postseason tournament, and

Whereas, the team’s offensive strength was displayed during the semifinal game against the Enosburg High School Hornets in which the Royals were clearly in command as they rolled to a 82-64 victory, with team members Dave Manning and Nevin Fulcher contributing 27 and 25 points, respectively, and

Whereas, at the championship contest at the Barre Auditorium, the Royals again proved that they can easily throw the large orange ball through the netted hoop as they defeated their opponents, the Hazen Union High School Wildcats, and

Whereas, the top-seeded Wildcats demonstrated their outstanding basketball skills leading the game 39-37 at halftime, and

Whereas, recognizing that the entire season would be remembered by the team’s success during the game’s final half, the Royals exercised every opportunity to increase their scoreboard tally, and

Whereas, South Royalton’s persistence and quickness on the court proved a successful combination as they held a commanding 76-58 lead when the final buzzer sounded, signaling that the Royals (22-2) were the 2005 Division III boys’ basketball champions, and

Whereas, Royals Nevin Fulcher, Paul Manning, Lee Cross, Adam Lyman, David Manning, Jordan White, Ryan Follensbee, Wes Farnsworth, Nick Enright, Pete Doyle, Jack Murphy, Ki Walker, and Miles Ellis worked together as a team in pursuit of their championship objective, and

Whereas, the support of team managers Nicole Bahr, Amanda Benson, and Emilee Witts was always appreciated, and

Whereas, special credit for the Royals’ triumph must be credited to Head Coach Jeff Thomas and Assistant Coach Jamie Kinnarney, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the South Royalton High School Royals 2005 Division III championship boys’ basketball team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Jeff Thomas at South Royalton High School.
