Joint Concurrent House Resolution


H.C.R.  61

House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2004 Vermont Music Educator of the Year Susan O’Daniel of Vergennes

Offered by:  Representatives Clark of Vergennes, Houston of Ferrisburgh and Smith of New Haven

Whereas, Susan O’Daniel of Vergennes has a deep love of music and a strong passion to teach children the art form’s boundless creative possibilities, and

Whereas, she prepared for her life’s pursuit by earning a music degree at Boston University, specializing in music education and French horn studies, and, while a college student, was a member of many music performance ensembles, and

Whereas, after graduating with honors, Susan O’Daniel headed northward where she accepted a teaching position at Vergennes Union High School, and

Whereas, for the last quarter century, she has focused her professional attention on improving and expanding the school’s instrumental music curriculum, and

Whereas, under Susan O’Daniel’s guidance, Vergennes Union High School can now be proud of hosting one of the best music education programs at any secondary school in the state, and

Whereas, in recognition of her excellence as a music pedagogue, in 2004, she was named, most deservedly, the Green Mountain Music District’s Teacher of the Year, and the Vermont Music Educators Association’s Music Educator of the Year, and

Whereas, while deeply committed to her role as a high school music educator, she has hardly limited her musical activities to the confines of Vergennes Union High School, and

Whereas, Susan O’Daniel waves the baton that keeps the beat for the Vergennes City Band, and

Whereas, she remains committed to her other musical specialty, the French horn, having cofounded the Champlain Brass quintet of which she is a member, and she also performs regularly with other ensembles, including the Vermont Winds, and

Whereas, she has served as a mentor for other music teachers in Vermont, now therefore be it

 

 

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate Susan O’Daniel on her receipt of the 2004 Vermont Music Educator of the Year Award, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Susan O’Daniel at Vergennes Union High School.
