House concurrent resolution expressing condolences to and support for the businesses destroyed in the Depatie-Bongiorno Block fire in Enosburg Falls

Whereas, the historic Depatie-Bongiorno Block in downtown Enosburg Falls has served as the village’s commercial center for many decades, and

Whereas, the Depatie-Bongiorno Block was the home of many of Enosburg Falls’ leading retail establishments, all of which were locally owned businesses, including Leigh Meridiths, owned by Rhonda Greenway, Halvy’s  Cafe, owned by Bob and Jane Boutin, Depaties, owned by Steve and Linda and Kevin Depatie, Precious Things, owned by Sandra, Raymond, and Chris Ferland, and Modern Furniture, owned by Greg Abbott, and

Whereas, on Wednesday morning, February 2, 2005, the historic Depatie‑Bongiorno block burst into flames, and

Whereas, the local fire department, and those from many nearby communities, responded quickly and professionally, and

Whereas, although no deaths or serious injuries resulted from this enormous blaze, each of the block’s businesses was destroyed in its entirety, and

Whereas, the initial property damage is estimated at $1 million, and

Whereas, each of these businesses has played an important role in the economic life of Enosburg Falls, and their absence, even on a temporary basis, will be missed, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly expresses its condolences to and support for the commercial establishments destroyed in the Depatie-Bongiorno Block fire on February 2, 2005, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the owners of each business named in this resolution.
