Joint Concurrent House Resolution


H.C.R.  39

House concurrent resolution honoring Hall and Marion Cushman for their community service activities

Offered by:  Representatives Obuchowski of Rockingham and Partridge of Windham

Whereas, Hall and Marion Cushman had been seasonal Vermont residents for many years, and

Whereas, in 1989, after Hall Cushman retired from his school teaching career, they decided to make the Green Mountain State their permanent home, and

Whereas, since residing in Vermont on a year-round basis, these outstanding individuals, who are veterans of the Civil Rights Movement, have been active participants in the civic life of the Bellows Falls area as they have both devoted many volunteer hours in service to the community, and

Whereas, Hall Cushman has been active as a hospice volunteer and is on the board of the “Our Place Drop In Center,” a daytime drop-in center that offers help with food and related needs in a nonjudgmental, safe, and respectful atmosphere, and

Whereas, Marion Cushman has volunteered many hours at “Park’s Place,” a patch center for men, women, and families, has served as a guardian ad litem, and is active in reparative justice activities in Windham County, and

Whereas, they both testified in support of civil unions at the State House on repeated occasions, and

Whereas, Hall and Marion Cushman have decided, with great regret, to move out of Vermont to be nearer to their children, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly honors Hall and Marion Cushman for their outstanding civic contribution in the Bellows Falls area, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Hall and Marion Cushman.
