Joint Concurrent House Resolution

House concurrent resolution honoring Patrick “Tucker” Corkins of Newport

Offered by:  Representatives Obuchowski of Rockingham, Kilmartin of Newport City, Marcotte of Coventry and Partridge of Windham

Whereas, Tucker Corkins believes and practices the old adage that honesty is the best policy, and

Whereas, in November 2004, the Newport 10‑year‑old was with his grandparents, Wilmer and Phyllis Batchelder, at the Miss Bellows Falls Diner located in the similarly‑named Windham County village, and

Whereas, while in the diner’s parking lot, Tucker spotted a wallet which contained $180.00, and

Whereas, instead of retaining the wallet for himself, he turned it over to the Bellows Falls police department, which was able to locate its rightful owner, and

Whereas, Bellows Falls Police Chief Keith Clark was impressed with Tucker’s honesty and sense of right and wrong, and

Whereas, in recognition of his honesty and choosing the correct course of action, Chief Clark presented Tucker with a gift certificate to a local sporting goods store, and

Whereas, Tucker’s grandparents have stated he is a “pretty special” 10‑year‑old, and

Whereas, he set a wonderful example for other youngsters to follow if they find themselves in a comparable situation, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives: 

That the General Assembly honors Patrick “Tucker” Corkins of Newport for his honest and good deed, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Patrick “Tucker” Corkins in Newport.
