Subject: Commerce and trade; consumer fraud; hauling and stop charge fees
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to prohibit the charging of hauling fees and stop charges to dairy farmers.
AN ACT RELATING TO DAIRY HAULING FEES AND STOP CHARGES
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 9 V.S.A. § 2461d is added to read:
§ 2461d. DAIRY HAULING FEES AND STOP CHARGES
The charging of fees to milk producers in Vermont for hauling milk or stopping at a farm to pick up milk is against the public policy of Vermont. These fees are unfair methods of competition in commerce and unfair or deceptive acts or practices in commerce and a violation of section 2453 of this title. The attorney general has the same authority to make rules, conduct civil investigations, and enter into assurances of discontinuance as provided under subchapter 1 of this chapter.
