Subject: Education; independent schools; assessment of students
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to authorize an independent school required to assess students for achievement of state standards to use either the state assessment or any nationally recognized assessment approved by the state board of education.
AN ACT RELATING TO ASSESSMENT OF STUDENTS BY INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 16 V.S.A. § 166(g) is amended to read:
(g) An approved independent school which accepts students for whom the district of residence pays tuition under chapter 21 of this title shall use either the assessment or assessments required under subdivision 164(9) of this title or any nationally recognized assessment or assessments approved by the state board to measure attainment of standards for student performance of those pupils. In addition, the school shall provide data related to the assessment or assessments as required by the commissioner.
