Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to allow municipalities to charge fees for fire services.
AN ACT RELATING TO MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY TO CHARGE FEES FOR FIRE SERVICES
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 24 V.S.A. § 2291(23) is added to read:
(23) To permit its fire department or designated fire service provider to charge a fee for service provided. The legislative body of a municipality shall establish:
(A) under what conditions a fee may be charged;
(B) under what conditions a fee may be waived;
(C) the maximum fee that may be charged;
(D) the rates on which a fee may be based; and
(E) a process for appeal of a fee charged.
