Subject:  Motor vehicles; salvaged vehicle

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to amend the definition of “salvaged motor vehicle” in the motor vehicle statutes.

AN ACT RELATING TO THE DEFINITION OF SALVAGED MOTOR VEHICLE

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  23 V.S.A. § 2001(13) is amended to read:

Except when the context otherwise requires, as used in this chapter:

(13)  “Salvaged motor vehicle” means a motor vehicle which has been scrapped, dismantled, destroyed or declared a total loss by an insurance company that has either been reported as being stolen or suffered sufficient damage to the extent that the total cost of repairs to rebuild or reconstruct the vehicle to its condition immediately before it was damaged for legal operation on the highways exceeds 75 percent of the fair market value of the vehicle immediately preceding the time it was damaged.
