Subject: Motor vehicles; registration; “year of manufacture” plates
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to provide for the registration of motor vehicles which are at least 25 years old using registration plates which were originally issued by the Vermont department of motor vehicles at the time the vehicle was manufactured.
AN ACT RELATING TO “YEAR OF MANUFACTURE” MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION PLATES
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 373a is added to read:
§ 373a. YEAR OF MANUFACTURE MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION
Motor vehicles which may be registered at the pleasure car rate and on trucks registered for less than 26,001 pounds and excluding vehicles registered under the International Registration Plan and which are at least 25 years old may be registered with plates that were issued by the Vermont department of motor vehicles during the year the vehicle was manufactured, provided the plates are supplied by the owner of the vehicle, are in good condition, and do not conflict with numbers currently issued. The commissioner of motor vehicles shall adopt rules pursuant to 3 V.S.A. chapter 25 to implement the provisions of this section.
