Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to provide aid to students who have earned the right to participate in a national academic program or competition.
AN ACT RELATING TO AID FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE EARNED THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A NATIONAL‑LEVEL ACADEMIC PROGRAM OR COMPETITION
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. AWARDS FOR PARTICIPATION IN A NATIONAL ACADEMIC
PROGRAM OR COMPETITION
There is appropriated the amount of $50,000.00 of general funds to the commissioner of education to provide matching awards to a Vermont student or groups of students who have won the right to participate in a national-level academic program or competition through outstanding performance or through winning of a statewide academic competition. The award shall be for the purpose of assisting the student or students to participate in the national academic competition or program. The commissioner shall establish basic criteria for the awards and shall have sole discretion in making the awards.
