Subject:  Motor vehicles; emergency vehicles; speed limit; sirens; lights

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to require the operator of an emergency vehicle when responding to an emergency to use flashing lights and the siren when exceeding the speed limit and otherwise operating pursuant to exemptions provided by law for these vehicles.

AN ACT RELATING TO EMERGENCY VEHICLE OPERATORS MAKING USE OF FLASHING LIGHTS AND SIRENS

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  23 V.S.A. § 1015(b) is amended to read:

(b)  The exemptions granted to an authorized emergency vehicle apply only when the operator of the vehicle is making use of audible or visual signals meeting the requirements of a siren and flashing lights which are authorized by this title.
