Subject: Motor vehicles; motorboats; registration; nonresident fee
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to establish an annual nonresident motorboat fee for motorboats prior to their entry in landlocked waters of Vermont and after 14 days if in waters that are contiguous to other states or the province of Quebec. The bill also authorizes the use of previously prepared decals for the identification of registered nonresident motorboats.
AN ACT RELATING TO NONRESIDENT MOTORBOAT FEES
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 3305(l) is added to read:
(l) The owner of a motorboat that is registered in another state shall file with the commissioner an application for a nonresident motorboat permit prior to entry into any landlocked waters or if the motorboat continues to be present in any waters that are contiguous with another state or the province of Quebec for a period in excess of 14 days. The owner of the vessel shall sign the application which shall be accompanied by a fee of $10.00 for a motorboat in class A; by a fee of $15.00 for a motorboat in class 1; by a fee of $25.00 for a motorboat in class 2; and by a fee of $35.00 for a motorboat in class 3. If a motorboat is in the waters of this state for more than 60 days in a 12‑month period, the motorboat shall, for registration and numbering purposes, be considered a resident vessel regardless of its registration in another state. The commissioner may modify previously prepared decals for the purpose of identifying nonresident registered motorboats.
