Subject:  Taxation; property tax; freeze on homestead taxes for low income elderly

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to freeze homestead taxes for homestead owners age 65 or over with household income of up to $47,000.00.  Taxes would be limited to a maximum of the amount paid in the homeowner’s 65th year so long as the taxpayer remains in the same house.

AN ACT RELATING TO FREEZE ON HOMESTEAD PROPERTY TAXES FOR LOW INCOME ELDERLY

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
