Subject:  Crimes; victims; incident reports

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to permit a victim of a crime to obtain at no cost one copy of the incident report from the investigating law enforcement agency.

AN ACT RELATING TO A VICTIM OBTAINING A FREE COPY OF A CRIME INCIDENT REPORT

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  13 V.S.A. § 5322 is added to read:

§ 5322.  COPY OF INCIDENT REPORT

A victim may obtain, at no charge, one copy of the investigating law enforcement agency’s incident report pertaining to the crime in which he or she was a victim.  Additional copies may be provided by the investigating law enforcement agency at a nominal fee.
