Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to prohibit intentional feeding of wild deer.

AN ACT RELATING TO A PROHIBITION AGAINST FEEDING OF WILD DEER

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  10 V.S.A. § 4754 is added to read:

§ 4754.  WILD DEER; FEEDING PROHIBITED

(a)  No person shall intentionally set out bait or food to entice or lure wild deer to an area.  In this section, food or bait does not include a crop or

crop‑bearing plant.

(b)  The commissioner is authorized to issue an order to a person who sets out bait or food in violation of this section requiring the person to remove the bait or food and to cease setting out bait or food.  A person who fails to remove the bait or food or who continues to set out bait or food following receipt of an order from the commissioner may be fined up to $500.00.
