Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to create a position of wildlife disease researcher in the department of fish and wildlife.
AN ACT RELATING TO A WILDLIFE DISEASE RESEARCHER IN THE DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. POSITION CREATED; APPROPRIATION
(a) There is created in the department of fish and wildlife the position of wildlife disease researcher for the purpose of gathering information and educating biologists and the public about diseases that may enter or have entered the wildlife population of Vermont. The wildlife disease researcher shall be responsible for identifying diseases which have the potential to harm the wildlife or human population, determining the likelihood of a harmful disease entering Vermont, determining the extent of the existence of harmful diseases in Vermont, researching methods to inhibit or stop the spread of harmful diseases, and educating both professionals and the public about wildlife diseases.
(b) The amount of $80,000.00 is appropriated from the fish and wildlife fund to the commissioner of fish and wildlife for the purpose of hiring a full‑time wildlife disease researcher in fiscal year 2007.
