Subject: Public service; regulation of corporations; areas served by several companies
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to enable customers whose premises are located in the service territory of two or more companies distributing electrical energy to exercise their choice of those companies.
AN ACT RELATING TO CUSTOMER CHOICE OF UTILITY COMPANY
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 30 V.S.A. § 251(f) is added to read:
(f) Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, a customer shall be entitled to choose to receive service from any of those companies distributing electrical energy in whose service territory the premises of the customer are located. The customer making the choice shall be responsible for the costs of moving its metering point into the service territory of the company whose service the customer has chosen to receive, but the customer shall not be responsible for any revenue losses, expenses, or other costs incurred by the company whose service the customer is choosing to terminate.
