Subject: Commerce; commercial storage liens
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to provide a person who stores property commercially for another person with a lien on the property for the reasonable amount of storage charges.
AN ACT RELATING TO COMMERCIAL STORAGE LIENS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 9 V.S.A. chapter 51, subchapter 10 is added to read:
Subchapter 10. Commercial Storage Liens
§ 2101. COMMERCIAL STORAGE LIENS
(a) A person who stores personal property in exchange for payment by the owner shall have a lien on the property for the reasonable storage charges, and may retain possession of the property until the charges are paid.
(b) A commercial storage lien created under this subchapter shall be enforced in the same manner as an artisan’s lien under subchapter 2 of this chapter.
