Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to award a free hunting and fishing license to a landowner who does not post his or her land against hunting.

AN ACT RELATING TO A FREE HUNTING AND FISHING LICENSE FOR THE OWNER OF UNPOSTED LAND

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  10 V.S.A. § 4255(g) is added to read:

(g)  A person who owns a parcel of at least 15 acres of land and who does not post against hunting any land owned by the person, except as provided in this subsection, shall receive a free fishing license, or if he or she is eligible for a hunting license, a free combination hunting and fishing license in any year that the land remains unposted.  The free license shall not include other licenses such as big game licenses.  The person shall remain eligible for a license if he or she posts a safety zone pursuant to section 4710 of this title or posts a portion of the land for agricultural reasons as defined by rule of the board, and in either case, at least 15 acres remain open for hunting.
