Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to prohibit financial institutions organized in this state from charging a fee to conduct transactions in person rather than by an automated teller machine or similar device, by mail, or by any other method that is not an in-person transaction.

AN ACT RELATING TO FINANCIAL INSTITUTION FEES

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  8 V.S.A. § 10507 is added to read:

§ 10507.  CUSTOMER FEES; IN-PERSON TRANSACTIONS

A financial institution or credit union organized under this title shall not charge a fee, directly or indirectly, to any person for conducting a transaction in person rather than by an automated teller machine or similar device, by mail, or by any other method that is not an in-person transaction.
