Subject:  Motor vehicles; registration; school buses

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to require that all school buses be registered in a manner which allows for computation of the total number of school buses in the state.

AN ACT RELATING TO REGISTERING SCHOOL BUSES

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  23 V.S.A. § 361 is amended to read:

§ 361.  PLEASURE CARS

The annual fee for registration of any motor vehicle of the pleasure car type, and all vehicles powered by electricity, shall be $49.00 and the biennial fee shall be $90.00.  School buses registered under the provisions of this section shall be processed in a manner which allows for a computation of the total number of school buses in the state.

Sec. 2.  23 V.S.A. § 376(d) is amended to read:

(d)  The use of a school bus owned by a municipality in this state, whether or not that use is compensated, shall be considered a municipal purpose within the meaning of this section.  School buses registered under the provisions of this section shall be processed in a manner which allows for a computation of the total number of school buses in the state.
