Subject: Motor vehicles; all-terrain vehicles; liability; persons under 18 years of age
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to assign liability to the owner or registrant of an all-terrain vehicle for all violations occurring with that vehicle when it is being operated by a person under the age of 18 years.
AN ACT RELATING TO LIABILITY FOR ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE VIOLATIONS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 3507 is amended to read:
§ 3507. PENALTIES AND REVOCATION OF REGISTRATION;
PERSONS UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE
(a) A person who violates a provision of this chapter shall be fined not more than $300.00 for each offense unless otherwise provided by law.
(b) In addition to the fines provided in subsection (a) of this section, the commissioner may suspend or revoke the registration of an all-terrain vehicle involved in a violation of this chapter.
(c) The owner or registrant of an all-terrain vehicle shall be penalized pursuant to this section for all violations occurring with that vehicle when it is being operated by a person under the age of 18 years.
