Subject: Housing; fair housing; impediments; diversity; appropriation
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to provide money to remove impediments to fair housing through training, education, and testing in order to improve compliance with the state housing plan and state and federal laws regarding fair housing to improve diversity within the residential rental housing community.
AN ACT RELATING TO REMOVAL OF FAIR HOUSING IMPEDIMENTS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. APPROPRIATION; FAIR HOUSING; IMPEDIMENTS;
DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS
There is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2006 the amount of $75,000.00 to the department of housing and community affairs to provide education and training about federal and state fair housing laws to owners and renters of residential rental housing and to fund testing and enforcement in order to improve compliance with those laws. The goal is to follow through on Vermont’s commitment to fair housing so that the social, cultural, ethnic, and economic diversity of Vermont will be reflected in the residential rental housing community. The department may subcontract with a nonprofit corporation to carry out the requirements of this section.
