Subject: Education; minimum course of study; civics
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to require teaching of civics in high school and to direct the state board of education to adopt standards for a civics curriculum.
AN ACT RELATING TO MANDATORY TEACHING OF CIVICS IN HIGH SCHOOL
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 16 V.S.A. § 906(c) is added to read:
(c) For purposes of this title, the minimum course of study also includes a civics curriculum which meets standards adopted by the state board and which shall be provided to pupils at least once in grades 9-12.
