Subject: Motor vehicles; safety belts; primary enforcement
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to provide for primary enforcement of the safety belt law with a five-month grace period before it is enforced as a violation.
AN ACT RELATING TO PRIMARY ENFORCEMENT OF THE SAFETY BELT LAW
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. REPEAL
23 V.S.A. § 1259(e) (secondary enforcement of the safety belt law) is repealed.
Sec. 2. IMPLEMENTATION
Any person violating 23 V.S.A. § 1259 during the period July 1, 2005 to December 31, 2005 shall be given a warning of violation only. Thereafter, the penalty shall be as provided in 23 V.S.A. § 1259(f) of this section.
