Subject:  Crimes; false alarms and reports; false reports to law enforcement authorities

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to prohibit a person from providing false information to law enforcement authorities for the purpose of concealing his or her identity.

AN ACT RELATING TO FALSE REPORTS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  13 V.S.A. § 1754(a) is amended to read:

§ 1754.  FALSE REPORTS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITIES

(a)  A person who knowingly gives false information to any law enforcement officer with purpose to implicate another or to avoid being properly identified shall be imprisoned for not more than one year or fined not more than $1,000.00, or both.
