Subject:  Alcoholic beverages; liquor control board; composition; terms

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to increase to five the members of the liquor control board, to provide five-year terms, to limit a member’s terms to two, and to require that at least one member of the board hold a license issued by the department of liquor control.


It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  7 V.S.A. § 101(b) is amended to read:

(b)  The liquor control board shall consist of three persons five members, not more than two members three of which shall belong to the same political party.  Biennially At least one and not more than two members of the board shall hold a license issued by the department.  Annually, with the advice and consent of the senate, the governor shall appoint a person as a member of such the board for the term of six five years, whose term of office shall commence on February 1 of the year in which such the appointment is made.  No member shall be appointed or serve for more than two consecutive terms.  The governor shall biennially designate a member of such the board to be its chairman chair
