NO. R-279.  House concurrent resolution congratulating Linda Conrad on her retirement from Dan and Whit’s General Store in Norwich.

Whereas, Dan and Whit’s General Store in Norwich is the town’s leading retail establishment and the place where local residents purchase a wide array of consumer products, and

Whereas, on June 2, 1966, before many of today’s customers were born, Linda Conrad reported to Dan and Whit’s for her first day of employment, and

Whereas, she quickly became a popular fixture at the store and someone on whom customers placed great reliance, and

Whereas, Linda Conrad became not only a regular presence at the store but also part of what makes Norwich a special place to live, and

Whereas, new employees received their job orientation from her, and she then made certain that the younger hires stayed on the straight and narrow, and

Whereas, Linda Conrad knew entire families, and she helped young children find their parents and reunited the accidentally separated elderly with their spouses or children, and

Whereas, even stray dogs were able to return home through Linda Conrad’s intervention, and

Whereas, the store’s customers became members of her own extended family, and everyone cherished the ensuing friendships, and

Whereas, after 39 years on the job, Linda Conrad will be retiring from Dan and Whit’s later this year, and

Whereas, in recognition of her special and irreplaceable role at the store, the store’s management has announced plans to compile a notebook containing prose and photos documenting her nearly four decades as a Dan and Whit’s employee, and

Whereas, this volume will serve as a community tribute and special personal keepsake for Linda Conrad to recall her years at the store, and

Whereas, customers and colleagues alike will retain fond memories of their daily encounters with this extraordinary employee who always treated them with kindness, thoughtfulness, and the utmost consideration, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Linda Conrad on her retirement from Dan and Whit’s General Store in Norwich and extends best wishes to her for the years ahead, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Linda Conrad and to Dan and Whit’s General Store.
