NO. R-229.  House concurrent resolution congratulating William Lawson on his designation as Vermont’s National Distinguished Principal of the Year.

Offered by:  Senator Ayer of Addison District and Senator Giard of Addison District.

Whereas, annually, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Met-Life insurance company cosponsor the National Distinguished High School Principal of the Year award which honors outstanding high school principals in each state and on a national basis, and

Whereas, the Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA) administers the selection process for the state winner who the association honors at its Summer Leadership Academy at Killington and whose school is awarded a $1,500.00 support grant, and

Whereas, in the fall, the national winner is flown to Washington, D.C. for a recognition ceremony honoring all the state winners from whom one will be selected as the National Distinguished Principal of the Year and whose school will be awarded an additional $5,000.00 support grant, and 

Whereas, from the many excellent local nominees for the 2005 Vermont National Distinguished Principal of the Year, the VPA has selected William “Bill” Lawson, the principal of Middlebury Union High School in the Addison Central Supervisory Union, and

Whereas, according to the VPA’s executive director, Ray Pelligrini, the documented support for Bill Lawson’s nomination consisted of “a thick file of testimony regarding Lawson’s excellence and experience at MUHS from teachers, parents, and the central office,” and

Whereas, Bill Lawson was greatly honored to learn of his designation as Vermont’s National Distinguished Principal of the Year but gave much of the credit to his colleagues at Middlebury Union High School, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates William Lawson on his designation as Vermont’s National Distinguished Principal of the Year, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to William Lawson at Middlebury Union High School.
