NO. R-172.  House concurrent resolution congratulating the volunteer long‑term care ombudsmen program on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

Whereas, over 5,000 Vermonters live in nursing homes, residential care homes, and assisted living residences, and

Whereas, the volunteer long‑term care ombudsmen program was established 10 years ago to help protect the rights and improve the quality of life of all Vermonters living in long‑term care facilities, and

Whereas, volunteer ombudsmen complete 20 hours of classroom training, 30 hours of field training, and attend monthly in-service meetings to learn how best to assist individual residents with complaints and to provide information to others who want to learn more about Vermont’s long‑term care system, and

Whereas, volunteer ombudsmen work with families, other agencies, organizations, and the staff and administrators of long‑term care facilities in order to strengthen Vermont’s long‑term care system, always remembering that residents are the most important part of the system, and

Whereas, over the past 10 years, volunteer ombudsmen have dedicated more than 30,000 hours assisting Vermonters who live in nursing homes, residential care homes, and assisted living residences, and

Whereas, the ongoing presence of volunteer ombudsmen in long‑term care facilities has improved the quality of care and life of countless individual residents and strengthened Vermont’s long‑term care communities, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the volunteer ombudsmen program on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Jackie Majoros, the state long‑term care ombudsman.
