Whereas, the Square and Round Dance organizations of New England promote sound mental and physical health, and comradeship among individuals through participating in their enjoyable dance activities, and

Whereas, these dance organizations, in which participation is welcomed regardless of age, wealth, or social status, provide the local citizenry intangible and enduring benefits, and

Whereas, under the direction of able co‑chairs Bud and Judy Clifford and vice cochairs Richard Chapin and Catherine Fournier, the Vermont New England Square and Round Dance Committee, which was established in 1999, is hosting the 47th New England Square and Round Dance Convention in Brattleboro, and

Whereas, this is the first time since 1982-1983 when the New England Convention convened and danced in Burlington that it has been held in Vermont, and

Whereas, officials in the town of Brattleboro were extremely helpful in organizing the local committee’s bid, and

Whereas, 1,200 to 1,400 dancers, 70 square dance callers, and 35 round dance cuers are expected to converge on Windham County’s shire town, and

Whereas, because the convention is taking place in Brattleboro, local and out-of-state residents will be afforded a special opportunity to learn of the financial potential and other advantages that this gateway to Vermont offers, and

Whereas, the 47th New England Square and Round Dance Convention presents Vermonters with a special invitation to enjoy the great fun of square and round dancing, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Vermont New England Square and Round Dance Committee for its outstanding work in securing the 47th New England Square and Round Dance Convention for the town of Brattleboro, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Brattleboro Town Manager Jerry Remillard, Bud and Judy Clifford in West Danville, and Richard Chapin and Catherine Fournier in Guilford.
