NO. R-126.  House concurrent resolution congratulating the Arlington High School Eagles’ 2005 Division III championship girls’ basketball team.

(H.C.R.79)

Offered by:  Representatives Molloy of Arlington, Botzow of Pownal, Corcoran of Bennington, Hube of Londonderry, Komline of Dorset, Krawczyk of Bennington, Livingston of Manchester, Miller of Shaftsbury, Mook of Bennington, Morrissey of Bennington and Seibert of Norwich.

Offered by:  Senator Sears of Bennington District and Senator Shepard of Bennington District.

Whereas, the Division III girls’ basketball championship at Barre Auditorium matched the two-time champion Arlington High School Eagles against an extremely capable challenger, the Thetford Academy Panthers, and

Whereas, the evening’s excitement and drama was quantifiable as the first half lead changed eight times with Arlington up by one, 13-12, at the first quarter’s conclusion, and the game tied at 22-all when the midgame break arrived, and

Whereas, the third quarter concluded with the Eagles holding a precarious three point advantage, 33-29, and despite Erin Mears’ successful three pointer that expanded the Eagles’ fourth quarter margin to 41-33, the Panthers came roaring back to once again trail by a mere three points, 41-39 with a mere two minutes and 48 seconds remaining in regulation play, and

Whereas, the Eagles now realized that the team’s season-long goal to make it three championships in a row might truly be in jeopardy, and they ignited an impressive scoring spree and sharp defense that overwhelmed the Panthers, and

Whereas, in the final moments, Arlington was in command on the basketball court as it outscored Thetford 12-3 prior to the sounding of the final buzzer, and

Whereas, Jade Csizmesia’s 6 for 6 free-throw performance in the final one minute and 33 seconds, and game high 18 points, were major contributors to the 55-42 victory, and the Eagles’ clinching their third consecutive, and fifth in seven years, Division III girls’ basketball title, and

Whereas, Erin deserves special mention for her strong recovery from a recent ankle injury as her 17-point performance demonstrated, and

Whereas, the entire Eagle roster, including Jade Csizmesia, Kelsey Cefalo, Erin Mears, Alysha Roberts, Lindsay Sheldon, Shelby Wilson, Rachel Peterson, Ashley Hoyt, Stephanie Hazlett, Britni Hawley, and Laura Fisher, exhibited a unified team effort throughout the season, and

Whereas, the Eagles’ 21-1 championship season stands as a great tribute to the skill and leadership of Coach Kerry Csizmesia who took over the coaching reins shortly before the season began, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Arlington High School Eagles’ 2005 Division III championship girls’ basketball team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Kerry Csizmesia at Arlington High School.
