NO. R-125. House concurrent resolution honoring Arlo K. Sterner for his outstanding service as a firefighter in Lamoille County.

Whereas, firefighting is a public service of the highest order, and its practitioners are individuals whom Vermonters rely upon at unexpected and often frightening moments, and
Whereas, Arlo Sterner has been involved in various aspects of fire prevention since 1956 when he joined the Morrisville Fire Department, and his outstanding level of performance resulted in his rising through the ranks and being appointed first assistant chief in 1973, and
Whereas, in 1974, he completed the United States Fire Administration’s instructor’s course and has since taught firefighting classes throughout the state, and
Whereas, on moving to Wolcott, and temporarily leaving the Morrisville Fire Department, Arlo Sterner was instrumental in establishing that community’s volunteer fire department and continues to respond to its calls, and
Whereas, in 1986, he returned to the Morrisville Fire Department to serve as the engine captain and safety officer, and
Whereas, in January 2005, Arlo Skinner retired from full‑time status and concluded a 37‑year record of superb service as a Morrisville firefighter, and
Whereas, although retired from the department, he has continued to lend a valued helping hand, both as a watchdog of the department’s equipment and as a valued substitute during the current engine captain’s National Guard deployment, and
Whereas, the citizens of Lamoille County have been extremely fortunate to have been the beneficiaries of Arlo Sterner’s firefighting expertise, as have the firefighters elsewhere in the state who have enrolled in classes he has taught, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly honors Arlo K. Sterner for his outstanding service as a firefighter in Lamoille County, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Arlo Sterner in Wolcott.
